Depending on what side of the fence you are on (so to speak ) will determine what is right for you in regards to the type of radon system you want or get.  So I thought I would take the time to explain a couple of the systems that is available to you.

Systems in a Real Estate transaction:

If you are the seller ( especially in this day and age ) and you have your home under contract and if you are in need of a system ( a test is usually done by a company like ours or a home inspector ).  And the test comes up high then you may just want or need a basic system.  Lets call it a VW.  You want it done right but then again you will never see it or be around it ( the system – because you are moving ).  So you want the problem gone but no whistles or bells.  That would be a basic system that meets EPA guidelines in regards to the system and if the radon level is 3.9 or lower then you are good to go ( NOTE:  There is no such thing as a safe level of Radon – the lower the better – 3.9 is for a real estate transaction situation only ).

Buyers in a real estate transaction:

If you are the buyer then you will be around the system and may want more then just the basic’s  Lets call it a Chevy Impala.  This type of system would be on the inside of a home verse the outside of a home in regards to a basic system ( NOTE:  most basic systems run on the outside of a home ) but a little nicer one is ran through the mechanical chase of a home or the back of a closet and into the attic area above.  These systems usually cost a couple of hundred dollars more and are agreed upon by the buyer and seller in a realestate transaction.

Existing Homeowners etc:

In this type of situation the homeowner may have had a test done by there self or again by a company like ours and the test is high and they want it corrected right away.  Now there is a large number of extra’s that can be done here.  Lets call these systems a Cadillac.  On these  ….well the sky is the limit ( but it must be balanced ) Some folks will want or need the extras to get the level down as low as possible.  We do at times even combine certain types of green building practices ( which saves energy – prevents mold etc ) on the more advanced radon systems.  Again the sky is the limit but it must be balanced with the type of house, the site that the house is built on and so many other things.

These are but a few of the standard types of sytems that can be installed in a home.  There are also a lot of items to be considered in making the decisions listed above for more info email me at jim@radonsystems4u.com or leave a comment or question here on the blog.

Until next time….
