One of the main reasons for this site is information. Dictionary.com states that the word information is :
Knowledge communicated or received concerning a particular fact or circumstance or the act or fact of informing.
So that is what we are here to do. Inform you and hopefully learn something ourselves along the way. In mathematics the old saying says…the numbers do not lie…they are in fact the truth and only the truth. Nothing more and nothing less. So the vast majority of the numbers listed below I personally already knew but to be honest with you I had to loook some of them up myself .
Think about it this way. Sometimes things seem bigger then what they are due to the facts of - who is providing the information and or the numbers. Not to lesson any subject here, but think about Carbon Monoxide detectors. You can buy them at Lowe’s, Walmart, Home depot, Ace hardware and the list goes on and on. You see adds on TV about them etc. The sale of CO detectors are big business. And to a certain extent they should be. But what about the numbers. Now remember they do not lie. They are just that…numbers and numbers only. But the picture does become more clear as we look closer. So put your glasses on ( if needed ) and lets take a closer look at the numbers.
Did you know ?
1. 300 people a year die from Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
2. 830 people a year die from firearms.
3. 2,800 people a year die from home fires.
4. 3,700 people a year die from choking.
5. 3,900 people a year die from drownings.
6. 4,700 people die a year from work related injuries.
7. 8,000 people a year die from falls in there home.
8. 17,400 people a year die from drunk driving.
9. 21,000 a year die from Radon exposure.
Now please understand that there are a number of items ( this list is not a complete list of – causes of death ) missing from this list. And we are just trying to show the facts and the facts only. So lets look at it another.
Did you know that the above list can be looked at the following way also.
1. 300 C.O. death’s per year = 1 death every 1 day and 5 hours.
2. 830 firearms death’s = 1 death every 10.5 hours.
3. 2,800 fire relateds death’s = 1 death every 3.125 hours
4. 3,700 from choking = 1 death every 2.375 hours
5. 3,900 drowning death’s = 1 death every 2.25 hours
6. 4,700 from work related injuries = 1 death every 1.85 hours
7. 8,000 falls a year = 1 death every 1.1 hours
8. 17,400 people a year from drunk driving = 1 death every 30 minutes
9. 21,000 Radon exposure death’s per year = 1 death every 25 minutes.
Another way to say it is that 2 people have died from Radon exposure since I have been sitting here writing this blog. Or …In the time it takes you to …..go see a movie ( 2 hours ) 5 people have died from Radon exposure. Yes we are talking numbers and like I stated earlier I do not want to lesson any of the items listed above but we must understand that to fix a Radon problem it is simple and inexspensive…especially if you consider the cost of not doing anything.
Again just a thought, But what counts here… is the numbers.
