The main purpose of this blog is to provide you (the general public) with the information you need to deal with Radon gas. It is a vast subject that has a effect on our everyday lives. It effects more then you can ever imagine. You can not see it, you can not smell it and you can not taste it. You breathe it at work, your children breathe it in there schools, you breathe it at your dentist office and you are breathing it right now. But the most important thing to realize is that you breathe it when you are at home.
You see that is where the main problem comes from. Not the fact that the level in your home is automatically higher (which it may be) but the problem is the amount of time you spend in one place (your home). Now, that can be for some of us (us workaholics) at our place of work. Or in regards to our children the time they spend at school. The basic formula is radon level (what ever the level is) times the amount of exposure. HOW MUCH TIME YOU SPEND AT A GIVEN LOCATION X THE RADON LEVEL.
As stated before… in most cases that is your home. If you sleep there 7 or 8 hours a night and then lets say you are there a hour and a half in the morning then 3 hours in the evening before you go to bed. Then you are exposed to twelve hours a day in the same location. OK….now think about if you are retired. a retired person who is at home a lot. If they cannot be or are not… very active then it could be they are exposed as much as 24 hours a day in some instances. So the first part of the formula is the time we spend at a given location. That is the easy part. The second easy part is the test. You….and yes only you…can take care of this. Have a test done, do it your self …buy a kit. or call us….call a home inspector… just have it done It is a simple thing to do.
